Beschreibung

ThreadCycle is a location-based community app designed to combat fast fashion waste by reimagining how we consume, share, and connect through clothing. By combining peer-to-peer wardrobe sharing, ethical shopping discovery, and community event promotion, ThreadCycle empowers users to build circular fashion habits while strengthening local ties. At its core, ThreadCycle encourages sustainable clothing consumption by allowing users to swap, give away, or resell clothes to others in their area who share a similar sense of style. Users create personal style profiles and are matched with nearby individuals based on taste, size, and location - making swapping easy, accessible, and fun. An interactive map feature lets users discover local opportunities to engage in sustainable fashion, including yard sales, thrift pop-ups, clothing swap meets, tailoring workshops, and more. Ethical small businesses and independent makers can list their shops and events, gaining visibility within the app and connecting with conscious consumers. ThreadCycle also includes a mini marketplace, where users can choose to sell or barter their secondhand clothes with others. Swapping and sales can be facilitated through a point-based or token system to keep transactions accessible and equitable. To foster deeper engagement and awareness, users can join community challenges (like upcycling competitions or zero-waste weeks), host their own events, and track their environmental impact through a Sustainability Dashboard. This dashboard estimates the amount of clothing waste diverted, water saved, and emissions reduced through user activity. The app is especially designed for Gen Z and Millennials, students, creators, and sustainability-minded communities who are seeking alternatives to fast fashion but need affordable, socially engaging ways to access style. It provides a platform for meaningful interaction - not just with clothes, but with the people and stories behind them. ThreadCycle will be monetised ethically through a freemium model, partnerships with verified slow fashion brands, and optional donations to support environmental causes. Ads will be limited to vetted, ethical fashion brands and repair services only. The ultimate goal of ThreadCycle is to build a fashion future that is sustainable, social, and circular - where clothing is shared, loved, and reused within communities instead of sent to landfill.

Expertise

As a youth advocate passionate about sustainability, social justice, and community connection, I developed the idea for ThreadCycle to offer a practical, inclusive solution to fast fashion waste. My experience in my community as an ambassador and leader for social issues like homelessness, unsustainable environmental practices, and mental health has shown me the power of grassroots action and creative thinking to drive meaningful change. I believe that young people want to live more sustainably - but need tools that are accessible, community-driven, and empowering. ThreadCycle is built on that belief: a platform that helps people connect over shared style, reduce waste through clothing swaps and ethical alternatives, and rediscover the value of community. My goal is to use my leadership skills and passion for positive change to support organizations that share this vision , creating spaces where sustainability is not only possible, but joyful and social. Beyond the app, I’m eager to support other organizations through youth consultation, event collaboration, public speaking, and advocacy around sustainable fashion, youth homelessness, and environmental action. Whether it’s co-designing campaigns, running educational workshops, or helping amplify youth voices, I’m committed to working with others to create real-world impact and bring communities closer together.
