IdeeFoodreigner - Authentic Taste and Fantastic Memory

Currently, the youth unemployment rate is at its all time highest in the last decade in Vietnam. With only a 4.75% in 2003, yet now at a staggering 7.44% in 2022 (statista), it is inconceivable what the numbers would be like at the end of 2023. In the past, youngsters were already struggling to find work after graduation, and now, with the rising demand for competency in the English language, students, especially the less fortunate ones in the rural areas of Vietnam, find their dilemmas keep on piling. However, this is just only one of the tiny screws in the myriad of quandaries Vietnam has to resolve in order to attain sustainable economic growth. Another mind-boggling problem is that of sustainable growth, specifically in the food service industry. It is undeniable that Vietnam's food service industry has been a development success story. The Vietnam Foodservice Market size is estimated at 20.79 billion USD in 2023, and is expected to reach 36.29 billion USD by 2029, growing at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 9.73% during the forecast period (2023-2029) (Mordor Intelligence’s reports). Yet, this is not sustainable due to its large emphasis and main reliance on tourism. As we can see during the Covid-19 pandemic, the accommodation and food service sector in Vietnam was hit hard. During the peak of the pandemic, restaurants and cafes were not allowed to be open for dining in many cities across the country. Those quickly adapting to this by resorting to online food delivery thrived, while those slower were left to be bankrupt. By coming up with Foodreigner, I intended to solve both of these problems at the same time, hitting two birds with one stone. By disadvantaged students a chance to work and learn English at the same time, we want to relief the problem of youth unemployment in Vietnam. Moreover, staff members will be able to gain work experiences along with practical skills necessary for them to advance forward in their career through interaction with foreigners. As for the problems with sustainable growth, I endeavor to shift the focus of tourists from already popular and overrated restaurants to less well-known and underrated restaurants. This will allow tourists to have a more authentic Vietnamese experience outside of those tourist traps while also supporting local businesses and ventures, making the Vietnamese market become less oversaturated. Foodreigner will also solve the problem of undervalued restaurants going bankrupt by offering them an online platform to work on, enabling them to adapt quickly in time.
