Beschreibung
Financial literacy is an essential life skill that many students do not get to learn in school. A lot of high schoolers graduate without having a clear understanding of how to manage their own money, reduce financial risks and make informed economic decisions. This project aims to help address this problem by creating an educational website and hosting in-person lessons that introduce fundamental financial concepts to middle schoolers. The project will involve designing and developing a website that contains learning materials and interactive quizzes that students can use to learn about financial literacy. The curriculum is organized into three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced so that students can gradually build their knowledge and confidence with financial concepts.
The first level, Beginner, will focus on the most foundational financial ideas. These lessons include helping students understand the difference between needs and wants, developing the ability to make responsible spending choices with budgeting, and the importance of saving, and learning about income and jobs, including how career progression increases income. These topics are designed to help them develop an awareness on saving for a rainy day and how financial decisions can affect their daily lives.
At the Intermediate level, concepts taught will be more complex. For example, loans and debt, borrowing, interest, and the responsibilities that come with taking loans. As the society today is digitalized, online scams are increasingly common, students should learn about mechanics of scams and fraud. Other topics include taxes, where we explain why governments collect taxes and how tax money is used. The intermediate level also includes credit and debit, which will teach students how modern payment systems work and how responsible credit use can impact financial health.
The final level is the advanced level, which focuses on long-term financial planning and risk management. Lessons will cover insurance, including why insurance exists and how it helps protect individuals from financial loss in unexpected situations such as accidents or health emergencies. Students will also learn about investing, including stocks, diversification, risk, and long-term financial growth. These topics will help middle schoolers understand the idea of building wealth and preparing responsibly for financial stability in the future. The website will also include an interactive investment simulator where students can practice managing a virtual stock portfolio and observe how investment decisions can affect long-term financial outcomes and a situation simulator for saving and spending. This feature will allow them to apply what they learn in a hands-on way.
The website will organize these lessons in a clear and engaging format with videos that help explain and quizzes that help reinforce this idea, designed for middle school learners. By creating a structured and accessible financial literacy curriculum, this project aims to empower younger students with practical knowledge that will help them make informed financial decisions throughout their lives. Ultimately, the goal is to create an educational resource that teachers and students can use to improve financial literacy and promote responsible money management at an early age.
Expertise
My expertise is in financial literacy education, curriculum design, and student-led program development. I have experience simplifying complex financial concepts into easy, engaging lessons for younger students. Teaching middle school students has also helped me learn how to communicate clearly and keep learners interested. I have developed skills in organizing workshops, creating structured materials, and adding interactive elements like simulations and competitions. I can support other organizations by sharing my curriculum, lesson plans, and teaching resources. This way, they can implement similar programs in their communities. I can also help design workshops, train student leaders, and offer guidance on making financial literacy education more engaging and accessible. By working with other schools or organizations, I can help increase the reach and impact of financial literacy education.
