A girl's view of the 17 sustainable development goals - in pictures

‘If you don’t know where to start with the SDGs, start with women and girls everything else will fall into place,’ said UN Women head Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka recently. These photographs of women and girls all over the world illustrate each of the 17 SDGs. The exhibition was part of last year’s European Week of Action for Girls.

Wow! interesting views of SDG’s on girls and women’s perspective. If what UN women head said is anything to go by, an inclusive idea or project that give a place for girls and women will give it more importance. By reading this article I have now known the importance of girls and women inclusion in an idea or project. Thank you YCEC.

A really informative illustration of the SDGs. This does simplify understanding of the 17 goals through the pictorial presentation. Whiles text could be lengthy and so often deters most people from complete reading, pictures could facilitate the memory ability of most people. Bravo to the HEAD, this is indeed innovative. I am indeed moved.

This is how i view my project: While undertaking my qualitative research in three communities in northern Ghana on barriers to facility birthing from women and provider’s perspective, a central barrier identified was transport cost, even if the means of transport were available. Women and families in these communities do not have any alternative economic activity to earn income. Due to long distance between homes and health centers, thus affecting transport and cost, they are mostly unable to access the health centers unless they have to foot or carried on a bicycle. Can you imagine the pain these women go through when in labour? My project empowers women economically to enable their utilisation of facility birthing through their active involvement in agriculture, it creates an even clean environment and allows families a good time together without having to migrate in search of money. I believe just like the UN head’s pictorial simplification of the 17 goals, my project is a simple solution to a huge continental, even global problem- deforestation and increasing CO2.
