This is a short interview we conducted with Kemal Abdela the creator of O-YES International Conference. If you like this project and would like to vote for it, click here.


1. Please, tell us a bit about yourself: where are you from and what is your background?

My name is Mr.Kemal Abdela. Originally, I am from Oromia, Ethiopia and currently resident in Thailand. I am a lecturer at Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University, graduate student in Khon Kean University, president of a non-for-profit Organization Opportunities for Youth Empowerment and Success(O-YES) Foundation, Thailand. Moreover, i am the legal representative of Rangsit University representing students who are willing to study in the university.
In nutshell, I am a diligent young leader, researcher, teacher and community service lover.

2. Can you describe your idea or project in two sentences?

I want to create opportunities that can bring a sustainable future for young people and the community.

3. How did you get your idea or concept?

I got the idea of creating an opportunity for young and disadvantaged people from my life, my friends and young people who have brilliant ideas that can change their life and their community, but unable to do so because of lack of opportunity. In short, my past life experience and others who lack opportunities is the source of my idea/concept.

4. What is unique about your idea/project and how does it benefit mankind?

My project is the integration of education, creativity& innovation and a meaningful collaboration of visions that opens the doors for participants to learn more and share their knowledge, experience, and skills. In short, it teaches, encourages and equips youth with the creativity/innovation knowledge and skills, and promotes creativity and innovation, and sustainable development goals.

5. Describe yourself as an entrepreneur in one sentence

Personally, I am open minded, optimistic and enthusiastic, and i care about and strive for peace and sustainable life for all mankind.

6. How do you deal with people that doubt your abilities/initiatives?

I have tried to understand their reason and explain my abilities in practice with respect and tolerance. I accept the challenges as an opportunities to learn and work harder towards the achievement of my goals.

7. Where does your passion lie?

Creativity and innovation that can be solutions promote sustainable development and peaceful life.

 8. What are you afraid of or what keeps you up at night?

I am afraid of dying uselessly without doing anything for the world.

9. According to you, money is a synonym for.....

An opportunity that changes the life.

10. If you could rid the world of three things, what would they be?

  1. Illiteracy
  2. Poverty
  3. War

11. What are the benefits you take from the Entrepreneurship Campus?

I would love to thank the organizers for creating an opportunity where we (entrepreneurs) learn from each other and share our knowledge, skills, and experiences that develop our ideas and projects and encourage us to do more. Personally, I benefit a lot from inspirational quotes, other entrepreneurs’ questions, suggestions, and comments which are very important and helpful/insightful that helps me to develop and improve my project, and even create a new project in near future.

The entire activities and the platform it self.

Education is something dear to my heart and I am so happy that many young persons have seen the importance of this and we all have uniques ways of achieving universal education.
