Born and raised in the rugged Trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh, Tariq Wani’s journey began as a young porter and tourist helper, balancing school with the mountains that shaped his outlook on life. His early exposure to travel and community needs inspired him to pursue development work, where he went on to earn a Postgraduate Diploma in NGO Management and serve as a Prime Minister’s Rural Development Fellow, working at the grassroots on governance, livelihoods, and sustainability.

In 2016, he turned back to his roots, founding Zanskar Adventure Point, a travel enterprise that not only runs treks and adventure activities but also designs educational tours in medicine, arts, architecture, and photography. Along the way, he supported academic and independent research, delving into challenges such as waste management and India’s growing e-waste markets.

Today, Tariq is channeling his experience into entrepreneurship through the ZeroTrail Climate Action Vehicle—an AI-enabled mobile solution tackling waste collection, segregation, and recycling in fragile ecosystems like the Himalayas. Though in its early stage of development, ZeroTrail represents his vision of transforming sustainability challenges into scalable, impact-driven opportunities.
