Matthias Scheffelmeier is a partner at Ashoka Germany and a member of Ashoka Europe's regional leadership team. Ashoka is the world's largest network of social entrepreneurs providing stipends, assistance and access to a global network of peers to nearly 3,500 Ashoka Fellows in over 80 countries. He also is the co-founder of the "ChangemakerXchange", a global collaborative community for outstanding young social innovators. It now connects over 500 startup social entrepreneurs (and growing) across 70 countries in Europe, North Africa, Asia, Africa and the Middle East for the exchange of ideas, peer-to-peer learning and kickstarting collaborations.
Besides his role at Ashoka Matthias is a founding board member at the Social Entrepreneurship Netzwerk Deutschland (SEND) and a global board member at MasterPeace, an award-winning global grassroots peace movement. He also proudly serves on the jury of the Google.org Impact Challenge in Germany, the jury of "Land der Ideen" and as an advisory council member for StartSocial.
Before joining Ashoka he was Microsoft's Community Affairs (CSR) program coordinator for the Middle East and Africa region. He also is a BMW Foundation Young Leader and the winner of the 2011 BMW Foundation Young Leader Award.
He received his diploma degree in communication science at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany (being awarded the SIEMENS prize for "best thesis in communication science") and is an Alumni of AIESEC and sneep. In 2017 he earned an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the European School of Management and Technology in Berlin.
Matthias is fluent in German, English, and French and speaks functional Spanish and Turkish. He lives in Berlin with his wife and son.
