Description

Seaweed nets are a sustainable, biodegradable alternative to conventional plastic nets, crafted from dried seaweed and carrageenan-based bioplastic. Waterproof, durable, and 100% eco-friendly. They perform all the functions of a traditional fishing nets while surpassing it through its natural composition and sustainable manufacturing process. These nets are designed not only for marine plastic cleanup and as eco-conscious replacements for conventional synthetic fishing nets, but can also be adapted for various applications across industries, depending on consumer needs. Their biodegradable polymer structure ensures minimal environmental impact throughout the entire product lifecycle. The mission is clear and impactful: to develop nets that cause 0% pollution in waterways and pose no threat to marine life or surrounding ecosystems. This innovation aims to significantly reduce marine pollution caused by plastic fishing gear - currently responsible for over 10% of ocean waste. My target is ambitious yet achievable: to cut that figure down to 4%, marking a vital step toward restoring ocean health and protecting marine biodiversity for generations to come. The product is created through three key stages: 1) Weaving wet seaweed into structured braids to form the net’s core, 2) Formulating a biodegradable bioplastic coating using natural polymers such as carrageenan, 3) The braids are immersed in the bioplastic mixture, and then left to dry for 24 hours to enhance their tensile strength and water resistance.

Expertise

Within the Seaweed Net concept, I am responsible for building strong partnerships, identifying and applying for grant opportunities, and attracting impact investors aligned with sustainable innovation. I am proficient in using Canva and helping manage social media platforms to enhance brand visibility and public engagement. I also design functional management structures and develop long-term strategic plans that align with sustainable development goals (SDGs). My research expertise covers marine ecology, specifically in studying seaweed species and their applications in biodegradable materials. As a winner of international ecology olympiads, I have developed strong skills in conducting scientific research and using a variety of analytical tools to support data-driven innovation. I can conduct regular market gap analyses and track eco-industry trends, which allows me to introduce innovative functions into the product and position it effectively. Thanks to this combination of analytical thinking and strategic planning, I will support other organisations by offering: 1) Guidance on developing sustainable product concepts and prototypes, 2) Help with environmental R&D and exploring nature-based solutions, 3) Expertise in grant writing and investor communication, 4) Creation of efficient operational structures and workflows.
