2018 Winners’ Announcement Ceremony

The Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition is a global programme and an online platform to mobilize youth-led innovations for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Co-organized by the Goi Peace Foundation (GAP Key Partner), Stiftung Entrepreneurship and Digital Experts United, the Competition invites young entrepreneurs (age 15-35) from around the world to submit their innovative ideas and projects with a societal impact, which champions and implements one or more of the 17 SDGs.
Winners of the 2018 competition edition have been officially announced at a ceremony at the Entrepreneurship Summit in Berlin on October 6, 2018. More than 700 participants and thousands of livestream viewers witnessed the announcement of the winners and their creative ideas and innovative projects. The ceremony took place in the plenary hall of Henry Ford building at Free University Berlin.

The 2018 Grand Prize winner in the Best Ideas category, Shadi Alzu’bi from Jordan, attended the Winner’s Announcement Ceremony. Shadi was moved and overwhelmed when he heard his name called to come up on stage to receive his certificate while being applauded and cheered by the 700 audience participants.

Dörte Roloff and Jens Tönnesmann moderated the winners’ announcement ceremony and disclosed the winners and their ideas and projects to the audience.

Serial entrepreneur Lisa Lang, founder of the PowerHouse Group gave the keynote speech at the winners’ announcement ceremony, and expressed how much thrilled she has been to know that members at the Entrepreneurship Campus helped to brush up each other’s ideas and to improve each other’s projects. Despite the competition component, there has been a great spirit of collaboration among members of the Entrepreneurship Campus. By supporting and giving recommendations to each other of how their ideas and projects can get improved so that they are able to be successful on the market, Campus members have further discovered their entrepreneurial talents and increased their entrepreneurial knowledge and skills. Entrepreneurship education is the most important objective and achievement the Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition is aiming for, and a key component to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

In this year edition, nearly 60,000 relevant comments and recommendations have been made by members at Entrepreneurship Campus for a total of 651 best ideas and best projects posted on the Competition website.
Young people (15-35 years of age) in 93 countries from all around the world have submitted their social entrepreneurial ideas and projects this year.

Here are the 2018 winners in the Best Ideas and Best Projects category of the Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition:

A. Winners in the Best Ideas 2018 Category

* People’s Choice winner

Educating every person on cardiopulmonary resuscitation by Kratika Gupta, India
Kratika’s idea is to make Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - a medical emergency intervention - as a mandatory part an early education curriculum in every school across India. A collective knowledge of CPR medical intervention can save many people’s lives.

* Grand Prize winner

Water Watt - Thinking outside the box to generating electricity by Shadi Alzu’bi, Jordan
Water Watt is an environmentally friendly device fixed on water pipes which generates electricity. It can particularly be used in refugee camps and other venues in Jordan. Water Watts also helps to reduce the cost of electricity and makes it accessible to people who usually cannot have access to and cannot afford electricity.

* 2nd Prize winner

Cardio Vision by Omar Alhaj Mahmoud, Jordan (living in Saudi Arabia)
Cardio Vision is a project featuring a pair of low-cost glasses that help the visually impaired people to practice daily activities without the need of others. Thanks to a camera installed in the glasses, it informs the user what surrounds him/her on an earpiece sensor.

* 3rd Prize winner

UPCYCLERS by Neema Mit, Tanzania
UPCYCLERS is a social enterprise which aims to increase recycling activities and educating people on recycling in slums, in order to counteract poor sanitation and improve waste management in slum communities in Tanzania. UPCYCLERS saves lives in that respect.

B. Winners in the Best Projects 2018 category

* People’s Choice winner

SWIFTHEAL by Shahzeb Khan, India
SWIFTHEAL is a low cost electronic portable device poor people in rural areas in India can afford. It helps out in healing injury and surgery wounds swiftly.

* Grand Prize winner

“Waridi” is a Swahili word meaning rose flower by Venoranda Kuboka, Kenya

Waridi project seeks to educate people in Kenya on prevention activities for sexual and gender-based violence and abuse and to provide girls with various practical self-defense skills.

* 2nd Prize winner

NSSL - An innovative device that can save thousands of lives by Sheetal Kumari, India
NSSL device serves as a miniature inhaler fitted within a watch which is easy to carry and effective to use. The NSSL device immediately helps people with asthma in case of a sudden asthma attack.

* 3rd Prize winner

CLEVERHOME by Naomi Dinamona, Cameroon
CLEVERHOME is a home automation feature on the smartphone, in order to get informed about, to control and to regulate at any time the level of electricity consumption and security at home.
