#MEET Ypharmacy

This is a short interview we conducted with Yamen Joel the creator of Ypharmacy. If you like this project and would like to vote for it, click here.

1. Please, tell us a bit about yourself: where are you from and what is your background?

I am Yamen Joel 22 years old, young motivated entrepreneur and I live in the southwest of Cameroon. After my Baccalaureate D, I switch from the Francophone system to anglophone system to learn English and computer science in Catholic university institute of Buea. In order to my creativity, humility, I get a small experience in entrepreneurship by following volunteerism and guest speaker program organised by my university to bring us an entrepreneur mindset. After those programs i decided to turn my skills to social problem.

2. Can you describe your idea or project in two sentences?

Ypharmacy is a social-health mobile application for a crisis. It geolocalized pharmacies according to of status (closed, open, on called ) during the calm period and the time of crisis.

3. How did you get your idea or concept?

Living alone as a big student, Anglophone's crisis in Cameroon affect me a lot. I got a stomachache and the crisis was hot on my side so I decided to move up see my friend, and take a drug to him. strongly in Buea town(South Side), all stores were opened. I am asking to myself: '' how can inform people that drugstore is opened here''. Thinking about diabetes, asthmatics, and hepatitis, who faced difficulties to reach open pharmacies for their drug. After some research I discovered, it was the same thing in others African countries like South Africa(xenophobia), Nigeria (terrorism), Tchad (armed conflicts).

4. What is unique about your idea/project and how does it benefit mankind?

In the time of crisis is very difficult for Africans to find an open pharmacy for their drugs. The solution came in the sense that, we can have a crisis on the south side but in North side is calm. so, Ypharmacy geolocalize the nearest open pharmacy then you can contact the pharmacist for your needs. It will be very helpful for a traumatized person, or people who hurry need drugs.

5. Describe yourself as an entrepreneur in one sentence

I am a creative, a realist, and motivated entrepreneur who want to solve a social problem faced by his community.

6. How do you deal with people that doubt your abilities/initiatives?

I will convince them by using three points.
Firstly, Ypharmacy is an heathcare so, seeing the number of diabetics, hepatics, HIV person, asthmatics grow up every year in Cameroon. those people depend on drugs, they are following treatment for their sickness hence if there are not respective drugs for them they will die.
Secondly in 2018, Cameroon we will have the presidential election. so, we have to prepare ourselves in the case of armed conflicts or other kinds of trouble because the election in Africa is like that.
Thirdly, Ypharmacy will help older persons, students living alone, Tourists by ensuring them about the open pharmacy; so that they can gain time.
Finally, Ypharmacy will help ill-population and pharmacists to respectively get drugs and sell drugs.

7. Where does your passion lie?

I like to play football, reflect, discussion with my friend.

 8. What are you afraid of or what keeps you up at night?

Youth ignorance about the future.

9. According to you, money is a synonym for.....

Patience and Hard work

10. What are the benefits you take from the Entrepreneurship Campus?

I discuss with others country challenges about each other's ideas.
I also discovered by discussing with an afghan that my project Ypharmacy can be implemented for help people during a terrorist attack.

11. What do you like more about the Entrepreneurship Campus?

The fact you directly receive comments to others on your mail.

Hi Yamen Joel
Your project is good, keep expanding your service and recruit other young pharmacist. You may volunteer giving advice on correct drug use especially in remote areas where healthcare services are a bit challenge.
Well done so far.
Best of luck!
