When you can't be a writer, you should be a reader. I'm one of those persons who when meeting someone new the second question after asking for their name is: “What are you reading right now?” To me this is a fun because it is direct, saves a lot of time that could have been wasted in small talk, and it helps to catch the other one flat-footed. People who don't read have the unbearable ability to talk a lot and say nothing. Meanwhile, those who read have the artistry not only to explain let's say… the uncertainty principle in one sentence but to enlighten the other person.
If you want to change things, influence people, find solutions to major problems that concern you, or even know yourself, you have to read. Once upon a time, the impact of books to the reader was too powerful. In one of Carl Dryer movies, Ordet, one of the characters has gone mad and someone asks his brother for the reason:
A love affair?
No, Kierkegaard.
Though provoking books can change you and help in different ways. At first, they help to eliminate unconscious biases, they give muscles to your memory, it keeps your mind young, improves empathy, encourages you to fulfill your life goals. No matter if you want to become a prima ballerina or the entrepreneur of the century, you have to read in order to gain admirable knowledge that encourages you and inspires others.
